1. There is a maximum team size of four participants. You may have a team of fewer people or even work on your own, but you may have no more than four people per team.

  2. Teams should be made up exclusively of college students or recent graduates who are not organizers, judges, sponsors, or in any other privileged position at the event. Volunteers are allowed to participate so long as they are not assisting in judging the event.

  3. Students outside of NJIT under the age of 18 are not allowed to attend.

  4. All team members must be present in person, be in the BattleSnake 2026 Discord, and checked in on Devpost.

  5. Teams can of course gain advice and support from organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and others.

  6. All work on a project including submission must be done during the duration of the hackathon: from March 7th 1:00PM to March 8th 1:00PM.

  7. Teams can use an idea they had before the event.

  8. Teams can work on ideas that have already been done.

  9. Teams can work on an idea that they have worked on before as long as they do not reuse pre-existing code.

  10. Teams can use libraries, frameworks, or open-source code in their projects. Working on a project before the event and open-sourcing it for the sole purpose of using the code during the event is against the spirit of the rules and is not allowed. If you are using any libraries outside of your own work, make sure that you follow the license terms of those libraries and properly attribute the libraries you use in your submission!

  11. Teams can use 'starter code' as the basis for their hacks. Any 'starter code' used must be clearly denoted in a way obvious to the judging team.

  12. Teams cannot submit their code to more than one hackathon.

  13. You can only be a member of one team. Any individual participant may only be a member of a single team when submitting a project.

  14. Teams can only submit one project.

  15. Teams must stop coding once the time is up.

  16. Teams can be disqualified from the competition at the organizers' discretion. Reasons might include but are not limited to breaking the Competition Rules or other unsporting behavior.

All disputes should be reported to the BattleSnake 2026 Organizing Team.
